I remember when the verdict was reached exonerating the cops. There was a march down fifth avenue that passed by my office in the Village. As I was leaving work, I happened upon a group of matrons from the Upper East or West—fur and shit in full effect—holding up their expensive wallets, shouting “It’s a wallet, not a gun! It’s a wallet not a gun!” Thus was the breadth of the outrage.
